PC Assembly Completed
19 Jul 2009 4 CommentsThats one item off my list, I completed my PC a few days ago and was busy tweaking/over-clocking it and playing Crysis. So technically thats 2 items off my list.
More pics and specs after the break
The Motherboard:
EVGA X58 3 Way SLI was my choice for the reviews it got the its overclocking capability, which was a breeze.
CPU:

The Intel i7 920 was really my only choice, I didn’t want to spend $1000 on the extreme edition and the 2.4mghz was a bit under powered. This had the best bang for the buck and very good overclocking potential.
RAM:

I was looking to use the whole potential of the motherboard here, all of the 6 slots and the 1600Mhz. I bought a total 12GB for my build.
Note: 32 bit operating systems (xp,vista and windows 7) won’t recognize more than 2.5GB. You need a 64 bit operating system to utilize the ram, in my case I’m using Win 7 64 bit.
GPU:

I didn’t want to spend $500+ on a graphic card, so my choice was the Nvidia 285 cards, choose the overclocked one just because it costs $30 extra. And because my motherboard is triple SLI ready, there is always room for an upgrade in the future.
Power Supply:

Because of the overclocking and the use of the SLI capability, I needed a lot of wattage, I was always looking for a 1000 watt power supply. I choose the CORSAIR model which was more than enough for my build.
Cooling:
Due to the overclocking, I needed to cool the CPU, I choose the Cooler Master V8 (left – compared to the stock fan on the right), and just for kicks I bought the CORSAIR RAM cooling kit.

Case:

I knew I wanted a Thermaltake case even before I started to think of building a new PC, an ARMOR+ to be exact. But then I saw the ELEMENT and I thought why not go for something new (the armor was almost 2 years old).
DVD Drive:
This I bought from Kuwait, I took the Samsung DVD/RW drive for 7 KD.
Hard Disk Drives:

Because I have a Windows Home Server, I didn’t want too much storage in the PC. I got 2x 1TB HDDs and a Raid0 setup for performance. And I always can add more.
The Completed Project:
Total Cost: almost $1900 approximately KD550

Congrats and looking forward for Crysis performance benchmark !
How is your setup complete when you don’t have a monitor? at least not in the pictures. It all looks good for now but the scary part is the Cooler Master V8 heatsink which looks like a bulk of heavy metal or more of a car engine. I used to have this one on my old PC which kept the temp in the 45 – 50′s range.

As for the case I kinda like the Cooler Master Cosmos S case but a mid size would be better.
Now watch this crazy vid

BTW what HDDs are you using?
Congrats on your new

Note: Windows XP and Vista 32 bit will except up to 4GB installed but will not give its maximum usage due to Windows limitation, also different computers give different numbers so it depends. As for a 64 bit it will support up to 128GB

Heema: will do soon, right after the Overclocking post
DVLz: didn’t show my monitor cause its a bit old, I bought a monitor after I screwed my Macbook pro’s screen and converted it to a desktop a year ago. will post my monitor, mouse keyboard and speakers soon.
the V8 is awesome, I’ve got my 2.66 running @3.5 with temps not exceeding the early 50s while playing Crysis.
The Cooler Master Cosmos is a monster, saw it at Fry’s just before I ordered my case, It’s big (not a bad thing for building a PC) and heavy (very bad thing if you are shipping the damn thing). But if it’s available in Kuwait, it’s a very good choice.
I’m using WD 1TB drives, and the video you posted is insane.
You are totally right about the RAM, 2.5GB is a motherboard/bios limitation not 32 bit architecture.
Thanx.
