iPhone OS 4.0 To Get Multitasking?!

20 Jan 2010  10 Comments

BGR has an insider that confirms that the new iPhone OS (iPhone OS 4.0) will have multitasking capability (among other tweaks).

  • There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
  • “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
  • Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
  • The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
  • The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.

If that’s true, this takes the iphone to a whole new level. One of my main complaints was multitasking, so this will make me fall in love with the iphone again.

Now we just hope that there will be some hardware upgrades.

from what i’m hearing/reading, that might just be the only upgrade in the hardware.

I really hope not. they need a bump in screen resolution, processor speed and RAM.

There were rumors claiming that the new Iphone will feature a multi-core ARM Cortex-A9, capable of speeds over 2GHz!! or the use of PA semi chips that will be used in the upcoming Tablet.

The other rumor was the use of a high-res AMOLED screen or some sort of a new Apple LCD technology to keep up with Droid & Nexus One screens.

The only certainty (almost … you know Apple :s) we’ll be the 5 MP camera and maybe a 64 GB version based on the new NAND chips by Samsung & Toshiba.

We are still a long way away from using a to 2GHz processor on a mobile phone i think. Not only that, but Apple are also known for not using the latest, cutting edge tech available.
i really hope they change the screen. the screen on my nexus one is beautiful.

They should make the data sharing process easier!

having to modify each and every file in iTunes in order to send it to your iphone is time consuming and annoying!

just send via bluetooth/usb and you’re ready to go! thats what we want!

otherwise, im switching to HTC HD2 or Nexus One!
