Make The Most Out Of Your iPhone’s Push Notifications Service – Use The Growl/Prowl Combo
4 Jun 2010 No CommentsApple turned to “Push Notification” to work around the lack of multitasking capabilities on the iPhone. There are a large number of programs that use that service, I for one use it mostly to get the latest football scores. I really wanted a RSS app that used that service, but during my search I came across something better.
I found out that you can associate growl notification software (available for mac and PC) to push notifications to your iPhone via an app called Prowl ($2.99). So if a download is completed or if your finished converting a file or even if you received a new tweet. you will be notified instantly via Apple’s push notification
To put it simply, if Growl displays it on your screen, it can push it to your iPhone. I found it a little handy. I’ve been using it for a few 2 months now. But because Apple’s notifications implementation is horrendous, I ended up turning off the RSS and twitter notifications. Why? because when I receive more than one notification at the same time, I’ll miss the first one and will never now it existed, unless I go to the Prowl App, which defies the concept of notifications in the first place. I don’t need to go into an app to check my notifications, they need to be just…….THERE.
This is an oldish post I just got around to publishing it.
