Out With The Old, In With The New

During the past couple of months I finished the process of upgrading my mobile bag. I upgraded from a 13″ MBP to a 15″ MBP with an i7 processor which i needed when I was in the States and was away from my desktop to do the heavy lifting. Also upgraded was the portable storage HDD, from a 500GB to a 1TB WD I’m not exactly sure how am I going to utilize this storage on the go but whatever.

Not pictured is the new iPhone 4 from an iPhone 3G that I had for a few weeks now and will do a post about my impressions so far. And also exchanged my 32GB wifi iPad with a 64GB WiFi/3G one. I don’t even know why I bought the 3G version as I’m using my beloved Nexus One as my mobile hotspot.

But is the process complete? with the imminent release of the new Blackberries and the all new Windows Phones, this hobby is getting really expensive.

After upgrading what I miss most is battery life, I usually have at least 5 hours per charge on my 13″ MBP but I’m lucky if I get 2:30 on my new 15″. same with the iPhone 4, cant see any trace of the new over-sized battery as my phone dies even quicker now.

I thought the new MBP 15 ” had the same battery life? I have the 13 and thinking to move to the 15″ with i7, it says on their website its has the new battery with 8-9 Hours of juice, it wont give you 5 at least?

Thanks for bringing that up, bad battery life its a deal breaker to me

I got the same i7 15inch MBP and it easily gives me 4-5 hours with very extensive use. Gives a bit more if it’s light use and atleast 7 hours if the Wi-Fi and bluetooth are off…I think you need to take yours in to re-calibrate your battery. I had a similar problem with my old 13 inch MB model (it gave a an hour tops). It was a simple software fix.

QueenB: will give it a try thnks.

Fawaz: UW, thats my experience but acording to QueenB it might be a calibration issue. Will try it and let you know.

Zidaneoo: LOL, ent adra 3ad :D

Frankom: I only used my laptop extensively while I was traveling. now that I’m back home I really like working on my desktop.

Brownsugar: LOL, walla tistahil o ma i’3la 3alaik. But because I had this laptop for more than 2 months, I already gave my old laptop to a family member :D bs 7addik a’3ratni bl 11KD, if you are willing to go up to 12KD I might steal it back hehe

After reading Apple’s official calibration method here and here, it turned out that I’ve been calibrating my MBP daily as it holds a charge just for ~3 hours and I have to recharge it. and thats for just browsing. I would like to mention that I use the highest brightness setting (its easier on the eyes).

I have not yet upgraded my Macbook Unibody 13″ it’s still the Late 2008 model but maybe this year I’ll get something new hehehe not sure about going up to 15″ though since I already have my 27″ iMac.

As for the iPhone, I too upgraded from the 3G to 4 and am not seeing an improvement in the battery life if anything I am seeing that my 3G would hold more battery juice than the 4 which is weird. Do tell me if you come up with anything.
