On June 23rd 1972 Zinedine Yazid Zidane was born in Marseille, France to Smaïl and Malika, 2 Algerian immigrants who left Algeria in 1953 to settle in Paris.

Being spotted at the age 14 by an AS Cannes scout who jumpstarted his professional career. In total, Zidane played for 4 professional football clubs. Started in Cannes and then transferred to Bordeaux at the age of 20. Where he had just one trophy to claim with his club, the UEFA Intertoto Cup in 1995.

He then was signed by Juventus in 1996 for ₤3 million GBP At the age of 24, that was Zidane’s first international club and there he won the Serie A (twice), Italian Super Cup, UEFA Champions League (twice), UEFA Super Cup, Intercontinental Cup and the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

But Zidane wasn’t done yet, he then signed with Real Madrid at what then was the highest ever transfer fee. ₤48 million GBP. Where he also help his team win the La Liga, Spanish Super Cup (twice), UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup.

Good to see Trezeguet still could produce some beautiful football. I also think that Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick against APOEL in the Champions League should have made the list.
