XBox 360 To Get A 250Gb HDD?

28 Aug 2009  No Comments

Right after Sony’s PS3 Slim’s announcement, Microsoft hit back with taking $100 of the XBox Elite’s price, putting it in the same ballpark as the PS3 both now cost $299.

Amazons Xbox 360 250GB.jpg

Amazon Germany listed a new SKU that that is bundled with 2 wireless controllers, Forza motor sport 3 and a 250GB hard drive for $400. Microsoft currently sells 120GB maximum. That is big news for people like me that have the original 20GB hard drive and are holding out for an upgrade. I’ve been using the “install on hard drive” function on the 360 and love it, but the 20GB doesn’t hold much.

Amazon Germany took of the webpage but they have history of leaking new consoles before their announcement.

My Media Center

I’ve been planning to talk about my media center setup for a while now, but didn’t really have the time to write about it.

ASRock NetTop 2.jpg

I got the ASRock Ion 330 as the my Media center. The reason I went with this is the Dual core Atom processor and the built-in Ion chipset for crunching HD video. It has 2GB RAM, a 160GB HDD, DVD writer, VGA, HDMI and a bunch of USB ports on the back. And because of its size.

amiga5003

We have heard of all the retro gaming consoles from N. and how he is always talking about the nintendo’s, sega’s, atari’s etc.. But what he does not know is that people like me skipped a couple of generations of megadrives and nintendo’s because we owned the Amiga!  Personally I owned the compact Amiga 600, but the classic and most common one was the 500 pictured above.  The games at the time were incomparable to any other gaming platform, whether it was graphics or playability. Lets take a walk down memory lane… Continue Reading

I first wrote about this way back in CES 2008, its finally seeing daylight and should go on sale next month.

Features:
* Seamless curved screen, which eliminates bezel and screen gap issues for increased productivity and decreased frustration (according to Center for Human-Computer Interaction – Shupp et al, presented at Graphics Interface 2006)
* 2880 x 900 double WXGA native resolution
* 200 cd/m² brightness
* 0.02ms Rapid Response
* 10,000:1 contrast ratio
* Wide color gamut with 100% coverage of sRGB and 99.3% coverage of Adobe RGB
* Single link DVI-D and HDMI 1.3 input connectors
* USB 2.0 connectivity for easy use of peripherals

* On Screen Display (OSD®) and software-based GUI, which enables advanced display control options

But for $7999, I think I’ll stick to my regular flat monitor thank you.

The New PSP Go

screen-capture-5.jpg

A few days before E3, Sony screws up and the June Qore episode is all over the internet showing the new PSP.

The new PSP is nothing to get too exited about its just a little smaller design with slide-out controls, Still one analog stick (damn), what looks like same processor too so that the games will be compatible with older PSP modules as they are going to co-exist (according to the video).

The Biggest thing about the PSPGo is the built-in 16GB memory and still have a memory slot.

Watching My TV From Abroad

15 Apr 2009  2 Comments

As I’m in San Diego, and the US are not a big fan of Football. So I’m forced to look for alternatives.

I’m used to using my Slingbox to stream my home receiver to me anywhere in the world. The technology is called “placeshifting“.

The concept is really simple, hooking up a box to any A/V device and connecting it to your router so that you can stream that device to you via a PC or mobile device (WM phones, Blackberry and Symbian devices- iphone coming soon) either locally or via the internet.

screen-capture-3.jpg

I’ve been using the slingbox for 3 years now, and I can’t believe it hasn’t caught up in Kuwait as I expected. There isn’t a place that sells it even here in Kuwait.

screen-capture-5.jpg

Anyway the setup is not very complicated for the regular user, some port forwarding and selecting the type hardware you connected to the slingbox.

The other option is myp2p.eu where you can watch a selection of events, either via WMP or you have to download other software. But it’s a nice backup to have.

On another note, while I was watching today’s UCL matches and after Manchester United won the match, the arabic commentator was screaming “loory loory man united, loory loory man united” I guess what he meant was “glory glory man united” he made me LOL.
