The iPhone 5

iPhone 5

So I managed to get my hand on a brand new iPhone 5. The first thing you notice one you first hold the device is how light it is compared to the previous iPhone 4/S. It feels as light as the Samsung Galaxy S II.

iPhone 5 taller

The second thing you notice is that the device is taller, it might not be much in numbers but you certainly notice the 16:9 aspect ration and that makes the iPhone 5 feel really slim in you hands.

iPhone 5 Thickness

It is also slimmer and noticeable if you are used to putting your thumb on the side of the iPhone. Not by much though.

iPhone 5 Back

The new back is much more beautiful than the previous “All Glass” which was really stupid in my opinion. The clack finish looks even better.

iPhone 5 Lightning

The new smaller “lightning” port that would certainly render all your iPhone/iPod accessories useless is also on the new device. On the plus side, there is no way to plug in the cable upside down with this port.

iPhone 5 Headphone Port

The 3.5mm headphone jack also shifted to the bottom of the device.

iPhone 5 Ear Pods

The iPhone 5 comes with a brand new earphones that Apple stupidly calls the “EarPods” that should really increase sound quality. This is a highly welcomed addition as the previous Apple headphones were horrendous.

iPhone 5 Buttons

I really wished they kept the phone as thick as the previous generation and increased battery life. Phones are getting thinner and thinner but they hardly last a full day without you looking for a wall socket or carrying and external battery to charge your devices. But this is a problem with all current generation phones and not just Apple’s.

Keep Track of Your Favorite TV Shows And Know What Shows Are Renewed With This iOS App

29 Aug 2012  1 Comment

The summer season is coming to a close and most of the shows are showing their finales. But are you sure they are coming back next season? Well, There’s an app for that.

RENEWED is a very nifty little app that tracks the airing and continuity of your favorite TV shows. I really wanted to know if “The Newsroom” is coming back next season and I was relieved it is.

It seesms it’s a hit and miss with the app being stable or not. There are a lot of bad reviews due to the app constantly crashing but I haven’t had that problem.

The iPhone i+Case

24 Jan 2012  1 Comment

A few days ago I got an Aramex package containing some iPhone cases the I ordered a couple of months ago via Kickstarter. The i+Case reminds me a lot of the Element Case’s Vapor case for the iPhone that I previously owned. But the i-Case is more compact and I can use 3rd party chargers, A problem I hated when I was using the Vapor.

I+Case 2

I really loved the high quality of the compact screwdriver and the fact it has button extensions. But as it is with this type of cases, you can’t take it off unless you got the miniature screwdriver with you.

I+Case 3

I also dislike the mute button extension, its not as firm and secure in its position as the rest of the case, I’m not sure if its only a problem with that particular case or if it is a design flaw.

I+Case 4

There is also a signal  loss issue according to some users. They confirmed that but its not that serious and I haven’t  noticed it that much. Especially since the iPhone is not my main phone.

I+Case 5

All in all, I really love the case so far and haven’t got any major issues with it during the 18 hours that I have had it installed.

If you are one that does a lot of online purchases from a number of retailers, you know that its hard to keep track of all of those receipts and orders.

A cool new website is Slice. What it does is simple but clever, it scans your e-mail for receipts and slowly starts building up your online purchase history. It also has very good search features and filters that helps when looking at your orders. You can also track your shipments directly from the website.

There is also an iPhone app available for free.

Fake Jailbreak App in The App Store

13 Nov 2011  No Comments

Got an iPhone? Thinking about jailbreaking it? don’t be fooled by the $10 app in the app store that doesn’t have sufficient description and tricks you into thinking it actually jailbreaks your phone. Its just a cheap game. I remember when the App Store was much more strict, but then again, I also remember the I Am Rich app that was being sold for $1000

Maybe The Coolest Feature in iOS5

3 Nov 2011  2 Comments

There are a lot of small and hidden features in iOS5 that weren’t advertised as much as say the notification drawer or iMessage but this is pretty awesome.

You can create a custom vibration pattern and set it to individual contacts on your iPhone. So now even silently you can know who is calling you without the need to look at your phone.

1. Navigate to the Accessibility menu of iOS 5 (by tapping your Settings app, and selecting General and then Accessibility), and enable Custom Vibrations.

2. Navigate to Settings, Sounds, Vibration to record a custom vibration pattern that will replace the default iPhone vibration.

3. Use the touchscreen to tap out a custom vibration pattern. When you’re finished, tap Stop. To double-check your pattern, press the Play button; then save the pattern with a custom name.

Use the Contacts menu (bottom center) to assign custom vibrations to your friends.

4. To assign a custom vibration pattern to play only when a specific person calls, open the Phone app, switch to the Contacts tab, tap the contact to whom you want to assign a custom vibration, and select Edit, Vibration, Create New Vibration.

GoPano Micro
“Life happens in 360… Now your videos can too”
I backed up a kickstarter project a  few months back called “GoPano Micro”. The GoPano micro is a lens for the iPhone4 to make 360 panoramic videos! Just snap the lens to the supplied iPhone 4/S case and press record to make cool interactive 360 videos using the free iOS app. The shipment arrived yesterday but to bad I “misplaced” my iPhone 4 a month ago and can’t just try it out at the moment. Have to wait for the iPhone 4S.
The interactive video below is shot with a GoPano for the DSLR but its the same concept. use your mouse or arrow keys to pan around the video.

It’s Too Damn Hot!!

17 Jul 2011  5 Comments

Last friday, when I was coming back from friday prayer. I had my iPhone hooked up to the car charger/transmitter and was listing to some podcast. When all of a sudden everything went silent. At first I thought that the connection was lost or that the iPhone simply crashed since I’m using the iOS 5 beta software.

But after further inspection to my iphone I noticed an onscreen caution/warning that I never have seen before. apparently the device got too hot it shut itself down. Keep in mind the car was air conditioned at this happened after roughly 5-10 minutes after getting into the car.

So me and my phone got into an air conditioned car at the same time but after about 10 minutes it just couldn’t stand the heat and shut down to cool itself. What about me? Am I expected to tolerate heat more than a gadget?
