Being Sunday morning i was able to sleep in, i woke up and flipped thru my iphone and was face to face with Flixster. I decided to check out which were the nearest movie theaters with any decent movies, and stumbled upon Shutter Island. Flixster gave it a 70% but i decided to try it out nevertheless. I used to hate Leonardo Dicaprio, but after such movies as The Aviator, Catch me if You Can, Blood Diamond, Body of Lies and The Departed more recently, he has become one of the actors i am enjoying most in movies. So we went off to the movie theater but decided to eat as we were an hour early for the movie. We went to a Brazilian grill restaraunt which was right by the cinema, and it was awful. Its called Tucano’s grill, and it seemed like the meat was from actual Tucan’s, the bird that is. Anyway back to the movie.
The movie is around 2hrs and 18mins. The only way i can describe it is delusional, hallucinating and utterly genius. It drags you on for almost 2 hours thinking that you know whats going on, when the last 10 minutes it changes totally. Its not like a Sixth Sense kind of ending, but you have the feeling all the way through that something is not right, but its totally different than what you imagine. Of course there will be parts of the movie where you might think it is slow and too easy to guess, but only the ending does justice to the movie. Basically it is about a US marshall (Dicaprio), who is investigating an escaped murderess from a remote island (Shutter Island) which is a hospital for the criminally insane. Martin Scorsese again does not fail to amaze with this plot and ending. IMDB gave it an 8.5, and for their standards that is pretty high. Great movie, with lots of twists and turns and worth the watch.
BGR has an insider that confirms that the new iPhone OS (iPhone OS 4.0) will have multitasking capability (among other tweaks).
There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
“A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.
If that’s true, this takes the iphone to a whole new level. One of my main complaints was multitasking, so this will make me fall in love with the iphone again.
Now we just hope that there will be some hardware upgrades.
In 2008 Apple withdrew their “I Am Rich” app from the app store which sold 8 copies and only featured a red gem (shown below) on the iPhone’s home screen. They came under heavy abuse for even allowing an app of this sort into their App Store.
But now they are back with a real and working app that also costs $1000. BarMax CA is a legitimate application which helps law students prepare for the BAR exam. Its price is allegedly justified because companies with the same styled programs sell it for between $3000-$4000. If you find yourself obliged to buy the app you can find it here.

I posted a while back about the I Am T-Pain app and how it was taking the iTunes app store by storm. Well the company who made it, Smule, had come up with a contest and were giving away a $5,000 prize to the winner. The video above called “Im on the Phone” is the winner, even though i know some people who did pretty good songs, but i guess they never won because they didnt have a music video to go along!
Directed by Michael and Christiano Covino. Shot by Alex Marazzo and Sam Kretchmar

Reports started spreading this weekend that iPhone users in Australia had been falling victim to “ikee,” a worm that replaces default wallpaper with a picture of Rick Astley, the British pop singer… CNET
According to the article it will only infect jailbroken phones, but you must admit Rick Astley is classic prankster material! Everyone loves Rick Astley including Sirmixalot. Check him out here.
We have heard this over and over. “This phone is the iPhone killer”, yet whenever the phones eventually get released there is always something that doesnt put it into the same class, either its the app store or the simplicity of the iPhone that still keeps it as uncomparable to others. But Motorolla and Verizon are hyping up their “Droid” phone and directly attacking Apple’s iPhone in their ads. The phone will run Android 2.0 and Boy Genius is allegedly the only person to actually get his hands on one.
While those details are unconfirmed by Verizon or Motorola, the DroidDoes.com Web site and the TV ad for the campaign highlight that the Droid offers several important features, including multitasking, a replaceable battery and open development — features that the iPhone has been criticized for lacking. The TV ad attacks the iPhone in various ways, saying the following:
With Windows Mobile revamping and upgrading their system, Android becoming a real player in the market, and the iPhone still untouchable, the smartphone consumer’s smile just gets bigger and bigger.
I know this topic has been beaten to death, but is the only reason the Blackberry is so big in Kuwait due to the BBM? I cannot understand how a hardcore business smartphone can be so popular. With the same amount you pay for the Blackberry service you can add the data package from your provider and install all the instant messaging programs you want, and more. The iPhone at least is a multi-media monster. From applications, to games to the iPod itself. But beyond the BBM, what does the Blackberry provide to the non-business oriented Kuwaiti aged 16-35? I understand the users who are using background syncing for up to date analysis of say oil prices for example, or the stock markets, but other than that ? Any answers?
