DHL Easy Shop – Not So Easy

DHL easy shop

It seems that every time I order a new phone I hit some kind of delay. weirdly, both times I was using DHL.

DHL

First time was with the HTC Hero, now with the Nexus One. My shipment arrived in my mailbox on the 8th and till the 11th it was still processing. I emailed them asking the reason for the delay, they replied saying it is because my shipment arrived on Friday and there is no processing on weekends. The problem is this is not my first time using them and not the first time I had my stuff arrive on a Friday to my mailbox.

And also the shipping weight just doubled when it reached my DHL mailbox from 0.9KG to 1.57KG. so I was supposed to pay for 2lbs now I have to pay for 4lbs (they use 1lb shipping increments). It seems that they are back to using volumetric weight again. Which is a bummer.

It looks like I’ll be switching back to Aramex as my main courier. Especially after them using volumetric weight again. I cannot trust Amazon to ship my stuff in small packages.

Souq Al-Mubarkiya – سوق المباركية

Yesterday i took my random yearly trip to Souq Al-Mubarkiya, one of the most historic places in Kuwait. I wasnt looking for anything, just a little walk around since the weather was nice and there wasnt much to do last night. It was nice to see some foreigners (europeans/americans) walking around and enjoying a taste of our history. I took some quick snaps of random things with my phone which you can find below…

I saw this canon-like Courvoisier Cognac bottle in a random store with lots of old and vintage stuff. I regretted not buying later actually because it does look pretty cool. I also found some really old wind up record players that still work which was also interesting. Click below to see the rest of the pictures. Continue Reading

The Good Old Days (Part 2) – Hungry Bunny

10 Jan 2010  28 Comments

After trying Wimpy with N & Heema, and as a part of our “retro-burger” experience,  Hungry Bunny had to be next. Although I didn’t enjoy Wimpy that much, but the idea of eating HB once more was on my mind all the time. I guess I was looking for some “closure” because of the way this whole food chain disappeared :p. Anyway, I didn’t want to try the one in Hawali cause I know it’s not the original one.

A Blast From The Past:

Kuwait’s “lets forget 2009″ List

6 Jan 2010  17 Comments

On a more candid note after my post about 2009, somethings that might have been around before 2009, but may have gotten slightly out of hand.

Number 1 : RIM’s breakthru into the Kuwaiti market with their Blackberry’s. Its hard to have a conversation with an owner of these devices without being interrupted by furiously rapid texting or beeps emerging from the phone. Do they realize they can have the same data plan with any smartphone and use any social networking/chatting program to the same effect?

Saved $50

I was expecting my Aramex package to arrive 2 days ago, so I wasn’t surprised when I got a text message telling me that its out for delivery. But I was surprised when I saw that they didn’t charge me for customs as my shipment total cost was well over $100 (according to the new Aramex/customs rules).

So, it wasn’t until I got home from work and saw the package I knew why they didn’t charge me the 5%. It seems that Amazon for some reason didn’t include the invoice with the shipment.

Aramex-no-invoice

Lets recap, I didn’t pay the 5% on a $1000 package and my stuff didn’t get delayed at customs just because the invoice wasn’t included. Sweet!

Asian Cup Qualifier *UPDATED*

6 Jan 2010  6 Comments

Kuwait Football Team

Today, our national team will face Australia in the Asian Cup Qualifiers. We need a win here to go through to the finals. Kuwait and Australia are both sharing the top spot with 7 point from 4 games, Kuwait is ahead with goal difference. Oman is in 3rd place with 4 points.

The game will be held at Alkuwait Stadium in Kaifan at 5:30PM local time (14:30GMT).

Wajib wa6ani

Lets hope he’s right.

Thanks Nasser

UPDATE:

Well, the game is over. We drew 2-2. I didn’t see the game but from what I’ve heard we played well, espescially in the second half. good result overall. We would have still needed a draw against Oman in the final game even if we have won.

Next and final game will be held in Mascat, Oman on March 3rd.
