Blink Online Store

Just read this on ilSul6ana’s blog. I know Blink isn’t the first electronic online store in Kuwait but what made me post about it is their website interface is just too familiar.

I was in there store last month when I had my PC problem and saw -in my opinion- the best PC case ever created. The problem was it was the last piece and all scratched up. Also it costs 210KD :s

To Play Or Not To Play

13 Sep 2010  6 Comments

If you are following me on twitter then you would know that I purchased what might be the most anticipated game of the year, Halo Reach 4 days ago (9th of Sept.) but haven’t played it yet. Not just because my sleeping schedule is screwed up after Ramadan. But because the game is not officially released in the US until the 14th and Microsoft have threatened that they will ban gamertags if the catch people connecting to live before the official release date. Also I’m waiting for friends to get the games so that we can play the campaign in coop mode.
But I think now I should be safe since we are so close to the release date don’t you think?

VIVA Annonces 4G Network in Kuwait

18 Aug 2010  7 Comments

We were invited to attend the VIVA’s “VIVA Speed transition Experience” press conference that was held yesterday in their Marina Mall branch at 9-ish PM yesterday.

The beginning of the press conference, they said “we told you in our last press conference that we are going to release something big in the coming weeks” I had no idea about the last press conference but got excited just because they were hyping it up for a few weeks now so it got to be something big. “We are proud to announce the first 4G network in Kuwait” and held up one of 2 4G modems they had at the conference.

After that they invited the attendees to to some hands-on testing and if anyone got any questions. All the reporters had questions and all the blogger were on top of the laptop to do some testing. There I had the pleasure to meet in person JMB from Blushberry, Salem and Mohammed from Q8BlackMarket and mr 360Dewan himself.

After fiddling around with the device and the laptop doing some speed tests that showed up to 70Mb Download speeds and up to 30 Mb upload speeds (those were the best result we’ve witness during the event.
VIVA will be the second telecom company to release an LTE network after Norway’s TeliaSonera. But after some googling it turns out that TeliaSonera is actually Swedish/Finnish . And after asking Mr. Najeeb Al-Awadi way LTE (Long Term Evolution) instead of WIMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) he said there are a number of reasons, LTE has much better theoretical download (360 Mbits/s) and upload speeds (80 Mbits/s) than WIMAX (144 Mbits/s Down and 30 Mbits/s up). The other reason that its backed up by most major carrier in the world. Unlike WIMAX which has its only operational WIMAX network in the US by Sprit Network (4th largest telco. in the States).

Also there are plans to upgrade the current generation of LTE networks to what is called LTE Advanced which has theoretical downlink speeds of 1 Gbits/s.

The expected release of the Kuwait’s first 4G network is Q4 2010. Mr. Al-Awadi said we are almost ready to release it just waiting for some paperwork to clear from the ministry.

I would like to thank Mrs. Hind Ahmad Al-Nahedh for the invite.

B+F Open Flame Kitchen

5 Aug 2010  5 Comments

Since I’ve been out of the country for 3 months, when the guys decided to have dinner yesterday I thought I might as well let them pick the place. My only request was it should be a good place to eat as I didn’t have lunch, so I didn’t want to experiment with new places.

The guys picked B+F Open Flame Kitchen, from the same guys who brought you Burger Boutique and Slider Station which are both a personal favorite restaurants so experimenting was back on the table.

At 7:30pm 2 of the guys were already at 360 Mall and put their names in for a table, waiting time was 45mins to 1 hour. We arrived 15 mins later and sat at “Life With Cacao” as our table becomes available. We waited the full 1 hour for the table and went in at 8:30pm. By then the place was packed and the waiting time jumped to an astonishing 3 hours. It was crazy.

When we got seated it took a while for us to be attended to, I didn’t mind that since it was my first time there and I wasn’t familiar with the menu. They had a good selection of their burgers, sliders and fries from their other restaurants and also some pizzas and steaks. So they cover all the bases and have a good variety of food fore all tastes.

We ordered a few dishes, for starters we got the Chopped Salad (very light dressing – not exactly my taste) the Lobster Tail Tempura (very good) and El Diablo Pizza (Also was very good). My main course was 2 pieces of the Wildfire slider which was excellent. The guys had some more kinds of sliders and pizzas that I had no interest in trying them because by the time I finished my sliders I was beyond full.

Overall it was a very good experience, good food and semi-hectic service as they they forgot a main course but I wont hold it against them due to the unbelievable number of people and it being just a soft opening. Hope everything gets sorted out by Eid time and I thing it will. And I’m definitely going there again next week.

B+F Open Flame Kitchen is located at 360 Mall under The Meat Co. and opposite to Life with Cacao. Operating ours at the moment are 7pm-11pm Tel: 25309990

The 24 Hour Journey Back Home

26 Jul 2010  8 Comments

So today is my last day here in the US, I will be heading back to kuwait enshalla. My flight plan is as follows: San Antonio – Dallas – New York – Kuwait. Currently I’m in JFK airport in New York waiting for my Kuwait Airways flight 118 to board. The weather is unstable here in NYC, there was some heavy showers and some thunderstorms when we came in to land. I’m almost halfway through my trip. Hope the second half goes as smoothly as the first half.
