iPhone 3G + iOS4 = A Brick

29 Jul 2010  3 Comments

Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 3G to iOS4 it turned the phone into an unusable piece of hardware. I wasn’t using my iPhone that much ever since I got the Nexus One but now I cant even use it as an MP3 player. The phone is laggy, unresponsive and crashes frequently. I just cant wait for my iPhone 4 to arrive.

The video shows the iPhone 3G with the iOS4 running. The problem is I have it worse than what they are showing on the video.

Navigate With The Force

Just saw this on zdistrict’s blog, its a TomTom ad for a new voice package for their navigation devices. I think its great. if its available on any phone (Android or iPhone) I would definitely get it. There are 3 voice packs available at the moment: Darth Vader, Yoda and C-3PO. Has Solo is coming soon. The video above of the Darth Vader ad while the one below is the new Yoda ad.

iPhone 4 Released: Quick Hands-On

24 Jun 2010  4 Comments

Just went to the Apple store to play around with the new iPhone 4. It feels good in the hand, very responsive with the new A4 processor and 512MB RAM. The camera is on par with the Nexus One camera that I think is one of the best 5MP cameras around.

The line here in Albuquerque New Mexico was pretty long. There are two lines, one for purchases and one is for reservation. both were long.

As I talked to one of the sales representatives at Apple, He said there might not be enough iPhones for everybody and its likely that the will get Sold out the first day. But good news is that they have the iPad in stock

iPhone 4 Announced

8 Jun 2010  5 Comments

Mr. Jobs announced today the new iPhone 4 and iOS 4 to the world with no real surprises sadly as it was leaked a month ago with almost all details.

The phone will be released on June 24th and pre-order will start in a week (keep in mind they are carrier locked).

The main new features will be the front facing camera that enable Video chat (iPhone-to-iPhone only and via wifi only), higher resolution display and the new A4 CPU (iPad’s processor). Also it has some nice “theoretical” battery life, we will just have to wait and see.

Here is the promo video that explains the new features.

How To Update Your Nexus One To 2.2 (Froyo)

23 May 2010  1 Comment

  • Download the update from here.

The rest of the steps I posted before here. But just incase you are lazy, here you go:

  • Rename the file to update.zip.
  • Copy the update.zip file onto your microSD card.
  • With your Nexus One off, hold down the trackball and press the power button. You’ll be booted into a white screen with three Android robots on skateboards.
  • Select “Bootloader.”
  • On the next screen, select “Recovery.”
  • Your phone will reboot, giving you a picture of the Android robot and an exclamation point inside a triangle.
  • Now press the power button and volume up button at the same time. It could take a couple of tries.
  • Now (using the trackball this time) choose “Apply sdcard:update.zip”

After the installation is complete, you will still have to download and install Flash 10.1 to get things going, just click on any “get latest flash” link in the browser and you are set. or just search for it in the market place.

Enjoy

Android Froyo 2.2: Flash and First Signs of Arabic Support

23 May 2010  12 Comments

I just managed to download and install Froyo on my Nexus One today. I have been playing with it for a few hours at it is definitely a great upgrade.

The device feels snappier all around especially in the browser. The inclusion of Flash is awesome, it make mobile browsing much more tolerable. Also the battery life seemed to have improved, I played around with the device for a while a definitely notice a better battery life……. I think. will let you know after a full day use.

Another great feature is the WiFi hotspot. you can transfer your device into a wireless hotspot (think MiFi). this is a great feature indeed making me carry one less device, or maybe just an extra battery.

Also I have notice the first glimpse of Arabic support, I see separated Arabic letters instead of the usual block in both the browser and in the messages. This means that the next major update 3.0 perhaps will include full Arabic support.

Vic Gundorta Taking A Swipe At Apple Every CHance He Gets

21 May 2010  3 Comments

Yesterday, Google had its developers event and it showed-off a ton of new stuff (Google TV). But what I was waiting for was the 2.2 version of Android AKA Froyo.

It has a lot of great new features and new API’s. But what was amusing was watching the video and seeing Google’s Vice president of engineering taking a swipe at Apple every chance he gets. He even used Apple’s 1984 Campaign against them (3 minute mark first video)

The Keynote has a lot of info and demos and I recommend watching it if you have an Android device, planing to get one or you just want to see Steve Jobs have a taste of his own medicine.

5 part video.

I Might Jailbreak My iPhone Just For This!!

18 May 2010  1 Comment

I am not using my iPhone at the moment and its collecting dust in the apartment, my partner in crime is the Nexus One which I think is a much better phone to carry around for daily use. But after seeing the WiFi syncing app for the iPhone I’m thinking of jailbreaking it now, I have already jailbroken the iPad just to get “Backgrounder” but WiFi syncing sounds good.
