District 9

- To enjoy this movie, you have to be a sci-fi fan.

- To enjoy this movie, you have to be able to withstand the South African (Afrikaan) accent for 112 minutes.

- To enjoy this movie, you have to look beyond some of the bad CGI and hilarious alien costumes.

Alot of us enjoyed watching it, until it turned into more of a drama than a sci-fi/action movie. The ending wasnt too great either. As one of our friends said, “this should have been part 2 of a movie series”. But i would not have probably wanted to watch the “part 1″ then. IMDB gave it an 8.5/10 rating which proves there are many sci-fi fans, as well as underdog fans since this is a low budget movie that made it big. I can’t be that generous, and i am speaking on behalf of about 6 other guys. It needed more than one fight scene as everyone was waiting for those alien weapons to be used earlier. Tyson – The Documentary

Ask any guy and he will tell you Mike Tyson is awesome. Ask any boxing fan and they will tell you he is arguably pound for pound the best fighter to ever step inside the ring. Ask anyone and they will also tell you Mike Tyson is a pyscho. This documentary will only validate all those points, but in ways many you could never have imagined. The way he talks is funny, they way he chokes up and cries is funny , and the way he can flick a switch and become a madman is funny. All in their own pyschotic way. But make no mistake, he was a vicious fighter and a flammable personality. There is a classic scene when he gets out of prison and a reporter says he “should be in a straight-jacket”; triggering Mike Tyson to let off one of the most absurd and bone-shattering verbal tirades i have ever heard. A roller coaster of emotions from his highs and depths of his lows, which spanned his career. You will feel sorry for him, and you will regret that you never got to see more of him. A great documentary, even for non-boxing fans. Check out the trailer below.

He asked that they come to his editing suite and watch the film. If they left after 5 minutes, Toback would give them $100 USD. If they stayed after 5 minutes, they would have to stay for the whole picture – and give Toback extensive feedback on the film. According to Toback, not one woman left after 5 minutes, and many were in tears by the film’s finale.

“Tyson” received only one distribution offer during its run on the festival circuit, from Sony Classics Pictures. After Toback accepted the offer, the film screened at the Cannes Film Festival and received a 10 minute standing ovation. Many of the executives who initially passed on the film were at that screening.

Woody Wood Pecker

Bruno – Review (kind of)

After all the laughter most people enjoyed from Sacha Baron Cohen in Ali-G and Borat, i heard lots of things about Bruno. I was expecting it to push all limits of censorship and be very politically incorrect. So last night about 8 guys sat down to watch it. After laughing at a few of the opening scenes it did prove to be pushing the envelope in all aspects. From graphic nudity to all kinds of political incorrectness. But alot of it may have been unnecessary,  because it got repitious. If thats not your thing, you will find yourself looking at the screen in disgust over and over again. After less than half an hour, only 2 guys remained, as the other 6 decided to play kout. 10 minutes after that no one remained in front of the tv and Bruno was switched off. Maybe the scene with Bruno and his midget friend was kind of funny (very graphic), and the scenes with “Hamas” also gave most a few laughs. Besides that it was just alot of naked guys doing lots of gay things.

Blu-Ray Region Guide

There seems to be a lot of confusion around blu-rays region/zoning dilemma coming from the DVD. I noticed that after the recent PS3 post.

So this is a quick guide,here it goes:

DVD’s had 6 zones as shown in the graph below:

But Blu-rays have 3 regions:

But blu-ray has an unspoken secret, most movies are region free, so it doesn’t matter what  region your player is. You can check the Blu-ray titles here

As for the PS3, all PS3 games are playable on all region consoles, there is no region lock for games. But the restrictions are on DVDs and some blu-ray movies, so you wont be able to play your PS2 games (not an issue with the newer models)/DVD movies that you purchased from amazon if you have a PAL PS3 and vice-versa.

A new classic-in-the-making Indian movie coming soon to ShowCinema! From the trailer it seems like appearances from Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh, Holly Valance and Denise Richards! I cant embed the video due to it being disabled from youtube, but here is the link. dont forget to watch it until the end to see the Hollywood stars. Will Ferrell has been nominated for 17 Academy Awards in his career and has taken home 11 of those Oscars. He has been in some of Hollywood’s classic movies such as Talladega Nights, Step-Brothers, Anchorman, Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, and everyone’s favorite Old School. His career kicked off in Saturday Night Live and has also acted in many TV shows such as Eastbound & Down.

Borat & the Mankini

We all know Sacha Baron Cohen from his days of Ali G, Borat and more recently Bruno. Known for his political and social incorrectness, Borat was a fan favorite among almost all of his movie-goers. But he must have pushed the limit with his mankini. The mankini, if you dont remember, is the one piece ’Man’s Bikini’ that he wore and pushed the envelope of all that is acceptable for a straight man. For all those weirdo’s who would actually like to own one, you can buy it from here. 

I personally would go for the inflatable sumo costume.

Chickity Check Yourself

Chickity check yourself before you wreck yourself.

“If you don’t shut that baby up, I will shut her up for you.”

Thats what a stranger told a mother in Wal-Mart before slapping her 2-year old daughter at least four times in subarban Atlanta (without the ‘chickity check yourself..’ part of course). According to the mother, the girl is doing fine and has forgotten the incident. But the 61 year-old “slapper” is facing child cruelty charges. Check out the full story here.

A very slow & uneventful movie with a few funny scenes. Watch out for the Chinese guy who steals the show, besides that, avoid this movie. Starring Jennifer Aniston & Steve Zahn.

Also, everyone’s favorite 62-year old wants to make another comeback, this time with his Rambo Franchise. Rumoured to be acting alongside Mickey Rourke for the part,  he will also direct it, if it ever takes off. But for now you will be guaranteed to see his monster 6-pack in 2010 in the The Expendables.
