I remember watching the Police Academy movies back in the 80’s and thinking that there is no way Sgt. Larvelle Jones (played by Michael Winslow) is really producing these sounds and it must be some lame sound effects. But to my amazement a few years later when I saw him on a stage for the first time and his whole show was making crazy sounds. The video above where Michael Winslow is his own radio station.

What made me remember Mr. Winslow is that he had a new video surface on YouTube just last week that I tweeted about, where he plays an electric guitar, drums and Led freaking Zeppelin.

You might not find floppy drives anymore but this guy has put a couple of them into a really good use, playing Imperial March from Star Wars.

A few months ago, Christopher Tin made headlines when his song “Baba Yetu” that was originally written for the game Civilization IV, was nominated for a Grammy. It was the first ever music that was originally written for a game to be nominated.

Earlier this week, Baba Yetu won in the “Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s)” category.  I hope this is just the beginning. as we all know how wonderful gaming music really is.

Its been ages since the last Game Jams video that I literarily forgot about them. but when I saw this video it popped right into my head. Although Command and Conquer: Red Alert was the best real time strategy game at the time, Hell March helped to imprint the game on a lot of minds even more. The game was released in 1996 and the song isn’t widely used but for everyone who played the Red Alert series its easily recognizable.

I can see this becoming a normal thing in future heavy metal concerts, until someone screws up and electrify himself on stage in front of thousands of fans and then it gets banned.

Australian comedy group ‘Axis Of Awesome’ perform a sketch showing that you only need 4 chords to have a pop hit, and also play most of the popular pop hits.

Last week, a rogue piano player took Chatroulette by storm(above video), performing improvised tunes to the delight of most of his chat partners. He was so good that there was speculation that he was in fact Ben Folds in disguise. The rumor was quickly put to rest, but not before it reached Folds, himself.

At a concert last night in North Carolina, Folds broke out the webcam and performed an ode to the "piano improv guy," belting out on-the-spot songs to his Chatroulette partners and 2000 screaming fans. None of the Chatroulette regulars (perverts) popped up on the other end, but he was treated to a guy on the toilet.

This theme is one of the most cinematic scores in the history of gaming, which obviously matches the game to which its attached. Everything about this music screams “Play me I’m epic”, which it is.
