My Shooting Package

I misplaced my point and shoot camera some time ago, i had my DSLR the alpha 350. But still needed a compact point and shoot.

So I got the T900 witch was just released and a GPS companion for the camera.

I’ve been using it for over a week now, and think that it takes pretty good stills, haven’t tried it in low light conditions yet. It shoots 720P video it was nice in bright places but awful if the dark.

the GPS unit has a built in card reader, just switch it on, go on your road trip and start taking pictures. then simply insert the card in the unit and hit sync. That’s geotagging.

The GPS unit reads the time stamp on the pictures and matches them to your location on the unit from the log. its that simple.

I’m using iPhoto witch can read GPS EXIF in your photos, and plot your images on google maps.

I Think it a pretty nice combination all around, The camera and GPS unit are overpriced but hey thats Sony for you. And I would have loved them to be integrated but there isn’t a good option out there yet.

Camera:  ★★★★★★★★☆☆

GPS Unit:  ★★★★★★★★½☆

Watching My TV From Abroad

As I’m in San Diego, and the US are not a big fan of Football. So I’m forced to look for alternatives.

I’m used to using my Slingbox to stream my home receiver to me anywhere in the world. The technology is called “placeshifting“.

The concept is really simple, hooking up a box to any A/V device and connecting it to your router so that you can stream that device to you via a PC or mobile device (WM phones, Blackberry and Symbian devices- iphone coming soon) either locally or via the internet.

I’ve been using the slingbox for 3 years now, and I can’t believe it hasn’t caught up in Kuwait as I expected. There isn’t a place that sells it even here in Kuwait.

Anyway the setup is not very complicated for the regular user, some port forwarding and selecting the type hardware you connected to the slingbox.

The other option is myp2p.eu where you can watch a selection of events, either via WMP or you have to download other software. But it’s a nice backup to have.

On another note, while I was watching today’s UCL matches and after Manchester United won the match, the arabic commentator was screaming “loory loory man united, loory loory man united” I guess what he meant was “glory glory man united” he made me LOL.

As I mentioned before I stayed a night in Dallas, and the weather was colder than expected, it was even colder than New York.

Don’t believe me? Proof after the break. Continue Reading

I Renewed My Netflix Account

Netflix.png

When I arrived, I was planing to renew my netflix account I got last year as soon as I settled.

For those who haven’t heard of netflix before, it an online DVD rentals service with the ability to watch and stream some videos online.

So I did, and I’m streaming a lot of content mostly movies, and watching the occasional TV series now and then. It’s very convenient, espacially if you’ve got a good Internet connection like the one I’ve got (look below).

There is more than 10,000 titles avaliable for streaming at the moment, I still haven’t rented a single DVD. So a combination of Netflix and Hulu are more than I need for entertainment, I’m not even watching TV.

So I left Kuwait on the 2nd, and that’s why I’m behind on posting. I had Internet connection but was too lazy to post.

I stayed in London for 2 nights, then in Dallas for one night and finally San Diego.

So I should be posting regularly from now on.

myA350

I was planning to get me a DSLR for some time now but had no idea where to start. After reading a few reviews I knew I had a winner with the Sony A350. It has a tiltable 2.7" Live-view screen and the resolution is 14.2 MP.

I got it with the 18-70mm f3.5-5.6 Standard zoom lens for $900. So pictures from now on will be taken from this baby.
