Transformers 2: Revenge Of The Fallen – Movie Review

25 Jun 2009  No Comments

Transformers 2.jpg

Just got back from the movie and I have to say, I have no idea why the reviews were that harsh. I mean when you’re going to see a Transformers movie you’re not expecting it to be a award winning drama, its an action movie that would be really appreciated by a Transformers G1 fan. It’s not perfect, but still not that bad.

From IMDB:

The battle for Earth has ended but the battle for the universe has just begun. After returning to Cybertron, Starscream assumes command of the Decepticons, and has decided to return to Earth with force. The Autobots believing that peace was possible finds out that Megatron’s dead body has been stolen from the US Military by Skorpinox and revives him using his own spark. Now Megatron is back seeking revenge and with Starscream and more Decepticon reinforcements on the way, the Autobots with reinforcements of their own, may have more to deal with then meets the eye.

I’m a big Transformers fan, and after reading the reviews I went to the movie with really low expectations. Maybe that affected my opinion of the movie.

But hell I liked it.

The Zune Experience

I bought my first Zune almost 18 months ago, the reason was I really liked the screen and loved the idea of music subscription. But soon after I received it I couldn’t subscribe to the Zune Marketplace using any of my US based cards. So I looked for their pre-paid cards but couldn’t find any on Amazon, target, Gamestop, Wal-mart and K-mart. It didn’t bother me much, I was planing to resolve the issue when I get back to Kuwait.

But 1 week after arriving to Kuwait I’ve lost my Zune 120, and thus having no reason to subscribe to the Zune Marketplace, until now.

Zune 8gb.JPG

I was trying out Bing a few weeks ago when I cam across a very good offer, $82 (after cashback) for an open box, factory refurbished Zune 8GB. I almost bought it instantly but remembered that I couldn’t subscribe to the service using my cards, I checked Amazon and saw that they had The Zune Pass available, so I bought 1 card instantly and then went back to Bing to get the player.

Zune Pass.JPG

The day I got the Zune Pass I downloaded 10GB worth of music in 6 hrs, just because I can. I love the idea of all you can eat of music for $15 a month with 10 free DRM free songs per month, compared to iTunes new pricing of 1.29 for the high tier songs, thats $13 worth of songs free every month.

Blue Zune 8gb.JPG

On the hardware side, the Zune 8gb goes head-to-head with the iPod Nano, and is surpasses it in every way in my opinion. Built-in wifi, radio and sharing music is just part of the Zune experience.

Bottom line is if you are even a casual music listener I recommend the Zune ecosystem $15 a month is equal to 1 album and you get free 10 DRM free songs and it beats downloading pirated songs cause you don’t have to worry about audio bit-rate, cover-art and indexing your songs.

P.S. I don’t recommend getting a Zune at the moment, The Zune HD is coming out in a few moths an it looks great.

The Longest I Ever Stood in Line For A Burger

14 Jun 2009  No Comments

So I’ve tried Shake Shack today, it’s considered the best burgers in New York. The problem is I waited 40 mins to place my order and another 10 to pick it up. But it was definitely worth it.

UPDATE: changed the pic, shows the line when i was 10 mins in.

The Hangover – Movie Review

The Hangover.jpg

This was simply the funnies movie I’ve seen in a long time. The movie had me laughing non-stop from beginning to end.

From Yahoo Movies:

Two days before his wedding, Doug and his three friends drive to Las Vegas for a blow-out bachelor party they’ll never forget. But, in fact, when the three groomsmen wake up the next morning, they can’t remember a thing. For some reason, they find a tiger in the bathroom and a six-month-old baby in the closet of their suite at Caesars Palace. The one thing they can’t find is Doug. With no clue as to what transpired and little time to spare, the trio must retrace their hazy steps and all their bad decisions in order to figure out where things went wrong and hopefully get Doug back to L.A. in time to walk down the aisle.

Went to Sammy’s a few days ago to try out their pizza, its been recommended by every one here so I decided to give it a try.

The closest place is just around the corner from where I live so that was easy. And after reading the reviews and awards that they got I definitely got excited.

Palm Pre Reviews Hit The Net

4 Jun 2009  No Comments

prereview.jpg

Well, Palm Pre is just a few days away from launch (next Saturday) and the reviews are popping up all over the net.

So what’s the verdict? It’s a wonderful phone with a lot of room for improvement. Hardware is good (I don’t care if they say it’s a little flimsy, physical keyboard is a humongous plus for me), software is pretty good all-around (even bests the iPhone in a lot of places) but there is definitely room for improvement.

Now we wait for a GSM version.

Drag Me To Hell – Movie Review

Drag Me To Hell.jpg

Horror movies tend to be bad by nature. But sometimes you get a really nice horror movie like The Ring for instance.

Drag Me TO Hell I think belongs in the same category, saw it today and I really enjoyed it (for a horror movie).

The Godfather Restaurant – Review

Godfather Restaurant.jpg

I saw the commercial for this restaurant on TV and immediately said to my self that I had to try it.

Godfather Menu.jpg

It had nice atmosphere and a couple of movie posters. But the food wasn’t that good, it was pretty average.

We tried the fillet Minion (yesterdays special) and the Portobello Ravioli, the ravioli was a little sticky and the Minion was undercooked for my taste.

But still. I’m glad that I went.

iPhone Slingplayer Over 3G

17 May 2009  No Comments

Slingplayer.jpg

It was one of the most anticipated applications for the iPhone. I was really looking forward to it.

I’ve been using Slingbox for almost 2 years now, and the Slingplayer software is available for almost every other phone.

The iPhone App was released 5 days ago, and man was it a disappointment. It was very laggy, video keeps buffering every 10-15 seconds and the most
frustrating shortcoming is, NO 3G SUPPORT.

SlingiphoneKTV.jpg

But have no fear, the hacker community is here. if you have a jailbroken iPhone that is. Just download “Tricker Three 3G” from Cydia and thats it. It tricks Slingplayer, Skype and Fring and make them work on your edge/3g data connection.

Slingplayerover3g.jpg

As you can see from the picture above I’m connected via edge and still can stream video.

Now, if they only fix the other stuff.
