I used the website on many occasions. I subscribed saturday before the games but the account activated the next day (or late in the evening the same day not sure) and managed to watch the extra-long highlights of the yesterdays matches which were 45 mins long so you don’t miss a thing.

As for live viewing I watched Chelsea vs West Brom, Liverpool vs Arsenal and Man U vs New Castle all were great. And if you have a the bandwidth for it the quality automatically adjust (ala Netflix) to some very nice looking video.

Whats missing though is the short highlights that has just the goals, they might be there but I haven’t looked thoroughly enough and the ability to change the commentator language, from what I can see at the moment there is no why to do that at the moment.

Abu Dhabi online subscription is highly recommended even if you already have bought the receiver due to its shear and utter awesomeness

The show was stupid and pathetic, I wont even watch it during the summer when its considered to be TV’s dead season. There’s no way I’m spending time on a stupid show like that.

Next was watching a relatively new show (its 3rd season just finished airing). Breaking Bad is about a Chemistry teacher that his life gets turned upside down when he is diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, and decides to deal meth to provide for his family.

This series looked very good and I’m definitely going to watch more of it.

Yesterday we passed by Info Connect at the International Fair Ground to see what’s new. We weren’t expecting much from there except for some new DSL prices but we still had to wonder around checking stuff out before ManU/Arsenal – Egypt/Ghana games.

To our amazement we found a cleaning solution in an Tech/IT expo.

we ended up buying 3 of this AMAZING Kleaner :/

Also when walking around we noticed an unreleased Android mobile device on display in a protected glass case.

Yes it is the SonyEricsson’s upcoming X10. it will be the company’s first android device that should be available as early as next month.

Zidaneoo was also looking for a new laptop. So, we had a quick look around and saw an i7 and an i5 HP laptops that had a very good price. cant remember the exact pricing and specs. but I should have the up soon.

We took our time there wich made us miss both game’s kick-off. and when we got to Showtime’s booth i saw this.

Of course they were watching the Egypt game.

And when it was time to leave, it was raining and we were greeted with a lightnings show.

So, not much to say about the Expo. With the exception of semi-good ADSL prices.

This is goalkeeper Joao Rafael in the game between Benin vs Mozambique from the African Cup of Nations. He made a “routine” save late in the game almost cost him a goal and a broken neck! Hilarious fail moment from the ACN.

Ian Fleming created his legacy, and it continues until current times. I don’t think there is a person who doesn’t enjoy 007 in general. Showmovies Action have recently been putting re-runs of all the Bond movies and anytime i see them on i have to start watching. Probably the worst Bond movies were Pierce Brosnan’s even though he had potential to play the part. And maybe the worst casted Bond was Timothy Dalton. Sean Connery and Roger Moore were great, though I am enjoying Daniel Craig in this new role. He has given Bond a new refreshing and “badass” feel. Gotta love those Bond movies.

I went to watch Avatar on Friday after hearing alot about it without really reading much. All i knew was that it was a James Cameron movie and the most expensive of all time, and sci-fi based. I am not the biggest sci-fi fan. I appreciated the idea behind District 9 but at times thought it was too far fetched and just silly. Not to say that Avatar is not far fetched, its just different. First of all, graphically, its like nothing any of us has ever seen before. The colors, the images and the scenes are out of this world, literally. There is the whole underlined meaning of global warming/green peace/save the world, as well as the curiosity most people have of other life forms. Its a very long movie, but the action scenes and twists in the storyline keep you interested all the way to the end. James Cameron has a very vivid imagination to be able to think up a story like this and implement it onto the screen. Great movie, a must-see even for non sci-fi fans.

For years and years alot of us have heard about subliminal messages in cartoons and animations. So what are subliminal messages and how do they work?

Subliminal messages in movies and television take two forms. The first and most controversial is a few frames added to a movie or television show that contain a message. The second type of subliminal message is the inclusion of an object in the movie set which can contain a message that is theoretically interpreted by the subconscious.

A movie in the theater is projected at 24 frames per second. This rate of projection insures that the film is interpreted as “flicker less” by the human brain. The human eye and brain can not interpret action that occurs at less than 1/30th of a second. The projection rate insures that the human neural system can interpret the action on the screen without being jumpy or starting and stopping.

Subliminal messages can be a few frames of message that are inserted into a scene in the movie. While there is some debate as to whether subliminal messages truly are effective, they are inserted into many movies as either a product promotion or an attempt to heighten the sensation that is created in the scene.

In theory, while the eye can not visually see the few frames of subliminal message edited into the movie the subconscious receives the message and responds to the message. When an object is inserted into the scene, the eye may be following the action of the scene while the subconscious responds to the object and this response is transmitted to the conscious. link

In recent times, most of the uncovering of subliminal messages are found in Disney movies. And surprisingly enough, most of them are of sexual content. Which makes it even worse since these are usually made for children. I was expecting to find alot of different subliminal messages. Reading Ansam’s post about an Alladin song which included the line “Where they cut off your ear, if they don’t like your face… It’s barbaric, but hey, it’s home”, i thought when i did the research i would find subliminal messages on the same level. Politics, war and present day crisis’s was not to be found, so far at least. Aladdin’s song was a portrayal of Arabs as barbaric and uncivilised by the above quote. Yet, if you google subliminal messages in Disney, you will find the same 6 parts from the same movies. I was surprised, some debatable to me, but the fact that site after site, and blog after blog all mention the same messages has to have some truth in it. Flash Forward is a new TV series by ABC that looks like a TV show that I would want to watch, I mentiond this show back in June when I wrote my best new shows of 2009 list.

The season premiers Thursday 24th September.

- To enjoy this movie, you have to be a sci-fi fan.

- To enjoy this movie, you have to be able to withstand the South African (Afrikaan) accent for 112 minutes.

- To enjoy this movie, you have to look beyond some of the bad CGI and hilarious alien costumes.

Alot of us enjoyed watching it, until it turned into more of a drama than a sci-fi/action movie. The ending wasnt too great either. As one of our friends said, “this should have been part 2 of a movie series”. But i would not have probably wanted to watch the “part 1″ then. IMDB gave it an 8.5/10 rating which proves there are many sci-fi fans, as well as underdog fans since this is a low budget movie that made it big. I can’t be that generous, and i am speaking on behalf of about 6 other guys. It needed more than one fight scene as everyone was waiting for those alien weapons to be used earlier. Ask any guy and he will tell you Mike Tyson is awesome. Ask any boxing fan and they will tell you he is arguably pound for pound the best fighter to ever step inside the ring. Ask anyone and they will also tell you Mike Tyson is a pyscho. This documentary will only validate all those points, but in ways many you could never have imagined. The way he talks is funny, they way he chokes up and cries is funny , and the way he can flick a switch and become a madman is funny. All in their own pyschotic way. But make no mistake, he was a vicious fighter and a flammable personality. There is a classic scene when he gets out of prison and a reporter says he “should be in a straight-jacket”; triggering Mike Tyson to let off one of the most absurd and bone-shattering verbal tirades i have ever heard. A roller coaster of emotions from his highs and depths of his lows, which spanned his career. You will feel sorry for him, and you will regret that you never got to see more of him. A great documentary, even for non-boxing fans. Check out the trailer below.

When Jay Leno left his Tonight Show with NBC to do his Jay Leno Show, everyone was disappointed except for CBS and David Letterman. But i think now they may have a case to be disappointed as well. It seems nothing has changed on his show. He had Kanye West on his show recently, who felt remoresful for his charade at the MTV music awards, and did apologize, but also managed to jam with Rihanna and Jay-z afterwards. There was still Kevin Eubanks, the same political jokes including Bush, Cheney and a cash for clunkers one. As Jerry Seinfeld put it when on the show,  “In the ’90s, when we quit a show, we actually left.”

It seems Jay just left from the tonight show slot,  to the prime time slot.

After all the laughter most people enjoyed from Sacha Baron Cohen in Ali-G and Borat, i heard lots of things about Bruno. I was expecting it to push all limits of censorship and be very politically incorrect. So last night about 8 guys sat down to watch it. After laughing at a few of the opening scenes it did prove to be pushing the envelope in all aspects. From graphic nudity to all kinds of political incorrectness. But alot of it may have been unnecessary,  because it got repitious. If thats not your thing, you will find yourself looking at the screen in disgust over and over again. After less than half an hour, only 2 guys remained, as the other 6 decided to play kout. 10 minutes after that no one remained in front of the tv and Bruno was switched off. Maybe the scene with Bruno and his midget friend was kind of funny (very graphic), and the scenes with “Hamas” also gave most a few laughs. Besides that it was just alot of naked guys doing lots of gay things.

Will Ferrell has been nominated for 17 Academy Awards in his career and has taken home 11 of those Oscars. He has been in some of Hollywood’s classic movies such as Talladega Nights, Step-Brothers, Anchorman, Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, and everyone’s favorite Old School. His career kicked off in Saturday Night Live and has also acted in many TV shows such as Eastbound & Down.

Known for taking his roles in movies very seriously, the legend never fails to impress. It is rumoured to be that Will Ferrell disappeared in the jungles of Vietnam for 8 months while growing his moustache for the award winning performance in his movie The Anchorman. And what a beauty this monster moustache turned out to be.

Always having an entourage of women around him, he is currently on vacation in Bora Bora with his new lover shown in the picture above. Classic scenes from his movies are embedded in our minds forever, like the run through the quad to the gymnasium and getting hit point black by a dart gun in the neck in Old School.

But seriously, his performances in his movies, even as recent as Land of the Lost, are truly the kind of light-hearted humor which are missing from movies these days.  I for one, have enjoyed Will Ferrell as an actor and comedian from his days in Saturday Night Live until now. Keep it up Willy.

Mercedes AMG won 2 of the prizes this year for engine of the year.  The first is ‘best performance engine’  for the 6.3L V8 and the second is ‘ best engine above 4.0 liters’ for the same engine.

For some, an engine can transcend its role as an automotive power device and become a living, breathing thing. For those people, the Mercedes-AMG 6.2-litre V8 was devised. And in this case, AMG has created an angry, snarling monster.

 To win both of these prizes AMG had to out-muscle 2 BMW M-series engines, a V8 and a V10; a Porsche 3.8L flat six , Jaguar’s supercharged V8 and finally Ferrari’s V12. So this high-revving, large displacement beast has 7,200rpm redline for those brave enough to handle it.

Ranging from 451bhp up to 518bhp this powerplant still remains under the “one man, one engine” principle used by AMG. Basically, one technician is responsible for hand-assembling the complete engine, and his name will be signed on a plaque on the engine. With Samsung’s new sexy line of LED tv’s, i think we were all intrigued and wanting to splash out the extra cash for one of those. To put things into perspective, basically an LED tv is a LCD tv but with better blacks, colors and contrast. Thats it? Pretty much, yeah. You are paying the extra money for those options. Unless you meant OLED which is still not really consumer viable yet and will cost you about $2500 for an 11inch tv. Now the myths.

The Plasma Myths :

1) They experience burn-in.  This is not true, maybe it was more than 5 years ago but not anymore.

2) They have short life spans. this is also not true as modern day plasma’s can give you 34 years of life, but do you want your tv for that long? Whats important  to us is that you can keep your plasma on 24/7 and not worry about its life span termination.

The real Plasma problems :

1) They are glossy due to the fact they are glass. This means if you live in a place where you can’t control your lights or dont have any blinds or shutters, you may have alot of reflection to deal with.

2) They have to be conditioned. None of us actually do this, but for the first 100-200 hours you should keep the brightness and contrast levels way down, and then after those hours, optimize them for your usage to get best results.

LCD tvs.

The Good :

LCD’s tv tend to be more cost effective than plasma’s.  They are usually lighter and slimmer. But maybe most important of all is their matte finish which enables you to watch tv in a room with lots of windows and lots of lights. LCD whites should be better than those on the plasma’s as well. Supposedly, they are better for gaming as well.

The Bad :

They tend to struggle in fast motion. (you can find this cited everywhere but i have yet to actually notice a difference personally) . Compared to the plasma’s they are weaker in blacks, contrast and motion blur. Allegedly, images are less smooth and you get better shades of grey in plasma’s.

The Verdict

It seems as if the Plasma’s have more of an edge in many of the departments, especially in the larger sizes (40″ and above).  Personally, i enjoy the LCD tv’s much better than the plasma’s, i think they are clearer and have images which are more crisp. So at the end of the day its down to personal preference. For all those people wanting to spend an extra wad of cash on the LED’s, remember, they have only changed the backlights, so the upgrade may not be worth the price. Its like an owner of the iPhone 3G upgrading to the iPhone 3GS, its an amazing phone but the upgrade is just not worth it. But if its your first flat screen tv and you dont mind the extra cash, then go for it. Below is a list of the best Plasma and LCD tv’s in the market.
