I really love my Blackberry Curve but I have been looking to replace it for a while now. I don’t love the my Blackberry because of the BBM and Blackberry centric services, No. I love it because of its build, battery life and most importantly the physical keyboard.

I’m not looking for any keyboard, I love the vertical keyboard design. there isn’t much that is competing in that space at the moment so when I saw the Flipout I had to give it a try.

Keeping in mind that the primary use of this phone will be messaging, tweeting, checking facebook status and the occasional calling, it didn’t need to have the latest hardware.

The phone itself is small, it has a low-res 320 x 240 2.8″ screen/ 600MHz Cortex-A8 CPU 512MB of RAM a 7.2 HSDPA connectivity and a 3MP camera.

The phone comes with the Eclair version of Android (v2.1). And with the widget option that the Android OS has, it makes it even more practical. I just have the widgets of my social networks on 2 of my home screens. also, the notification system of the Android OS is the best on any mobile platform.

With all of that, to bad that the Motorola Flipout won’t be my Blackberry replacement for one very important reason. It doesn’t read arabic text. that is a major factor for me. And with the announcement of the new Blackberry 9900 I might give RIM one more chance when they release their new phones.

This is a neat little website that shows all of your online activity on popular social websites and arranges them as a searchable timeline. Might become really handy in a few years.

MemoLane

I didn’t find anything good at iCity, but while in X-Cite, I saw Creative’s GigaWorks T40 speakers that I already read a lot of reviews about and was a decent candidate. What made me go with the purchase was the price. Amazon sell those speakers for $150, I found them at X-Cite in the mid KD30′s range (Can’t remember exactly but was a great price).

With the newfound space, I managed to setup my desk the way I wanted to. with just a few centimeters to spare.

It’s been almost 2 years since the original Hangover movie. And I still think it’s one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. Part 2 is scheduled for release on May 26 of this year. Can’t wait.

The official Twitter app for mac is finally released along with the birth of the apps store. From the guys who brought you Tweetie comes a very decent Twitter app. [Link]

A must for every power user. Its a replacement for mac’s built-in spotlight that is really versatile, powerful and configurable. [Link]

Aperture 3

($79.99):

If you do any photo enhancing on your Mac and haven’t bought either Apple’s Aperture or Adobe’s Lightroom3 yet, then buying Aperture is a no-brainer. Down from its regular retail price of $200. $80 is considered a steal. [Link]

iLife’11:

The price of the iLife package is $50, in the App Store the 3 main applications (iPhoto ’11, iMovie ’11 and GarageBand ’11) will cost you just $45 ($15 each). But you will miss out on iWeb and iDVD. Both applications that are included on the iLife ’11′s DVD but haven’t been updated for a few years now (since iLife ’09). [Link]

iWork ’09:

I would suggest that you stay away from iWork ’09 at the moment as iWork ’11 looks really close to release. But if you have to; Pages, Keynote and Numbers are all available for $20 each. Also cheaper than retail. [Link]

Pixelmator

($29.99):

Pixelmator is one of the best image editors you can find on the Mac. With version 2.0 exclusive to the App Store and cost 50% less than the previous versions. This is also a must have application. [Link]

I am familiar with Saso and have tried them before, so my expectations were high for the place. When we got there the sun was semi-cool and outdoor seating area was completely empty (which was good).

i ordered the Bubba Shrimps and they were just great and my main course was Beyond The Bun, which what might be the best chicken sandwich I had for a long long time. The Saso Sliders were also very good and my kids had the Penne Sisi, which is basically a pink pasta. My wife had the Chicken Cheddar Melt that she didn’t like and ended up eating part of my sandwich.

We Stayed there till almost sunset and the view was just breathtaking, this is the perfect time for eating outdoors the the place was quiet enough to enjoy it.

Beejive ($9.99): There are a lot of IM applications out there but I really prefer Beejive over the rest. It looks really polished and has decent functionality. It was one of the first IM clients with Push-Notification and so I stuck with it ever since. A bit pricy though.

WhatsApp ($0.99): Another essential app. Not everyone uses IM, so another way to conveniently reach them is via WhatsApp assuming the have the program installed of course you the application scans your contact numbers with the registered database and shows you the available contacts automatically. you don’t have to hunt down PIN’s or email addresses or even usernames. Its available for the iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia S60 and Android (later two are in the beta phase).

Twitter/Facebook/Skype (Free): If you have an account in any of these services then this is a no-brainer.

Fring (free): If Beejive is a little over your budget or not willing to shed $10 for an IM client, the Fring is your alternative. it acts in a similar way, you have to register for an account and then log in in any of your services (Gtalk,live and yahoo…..).

Deliveries/Delivery Status Touch ($4.99): If you are an online shopper, then this is a must. You can track your packages from virtually any courier, you can even track them via inputting your amazon order number. $5 is steep for an app like this but its the best in its class in my opinion.

My Football Pro 2 ($1.99): One of the best looking football score notification programs it also have a bunch of other features and all is bundled in a nice interface. Beware, some programs require a separate $1 purchase for every team notification service. If you want to follow 5 teams the its $5. But not with My Football Pro 2. With the $2 purchase you can follow as many teams as you want.

Evernote/Dropbox (free): Evernote is a note taking program with a twist, it syncs your notes across all your devices that the program is installed on, If you create a note on your PC it automatically gets synced to your iPhone, Blackberry, macbook and every other device you have. Dropbox does the same thing but with files, thus minimizing the need of a flash drive in certain situations.

Next Episode ($2.99): If you watch a lot of TV shows then this app is your best friend. I’ve been looking around a lot for a decent tv show tracker and this application is the best that I could find.

VLC/OPlayer (free/$2.99): If you want to watch videos on your iPhone, then the built-in player aint gonna cut it. the recently released VLC is a very good option to play almost all of your files put personally felt that the OPlayer’s video playback quality was better. Also these programs help you opening those darn email video attachments.

Reeder ($2.99): This is by far the best RSS reader in the App Store. very polished, offline cashing and a ton of sharing options.

Read It Later ($2.99): This is a great app. Its a companion to your web browser. as soon as you see an article that you wold like to save for later reading, you press on a bookmarklet and you browser and its synced to your account. Its much more convenient than bookmarking or emailing yourself .

Ringtone Designer ($0.99): This app lets you create a ringtone from any song in your iPhone library with a very sleek and straightforward interface.

TVU (free): Watch online streaming channels as previously mentioned.

Color Splash ($1.99): a nifty photo editing app. lets you convert the image to black and white and choose what parts of the photo stays in color. Link

Getting all the vehicles ready for the Car Show and Track takes a lot of work. Luckily we have the support of Al Falah Car Wash, so we take over their lot, detail all the vehicles and get them ready for branding. Originally when this started it took about an hour and 30 minutes to get each car ready but as we had a few practice days we got it down to 15 to 20 minutes per vehicle to have it fully branded with all the different logos from Wataniya Telecom, Agility, Consolidated Contractors Company, Dent Xpress, Wataniya Airways, Al Sawan Travel, Credit One, and Slider Station. This time around we went the more difficult route with the branding and did a great job, some of those machines looked really good. It seems Bader Al-Mutawa keeps impressing people at Malaga FC, the latest reports say that he did very well against the Arka Gdynia a Polish team in a friendly a few days ago. The only problem is that Malaga FC already has 3 non EU players, which is the maximum a team can sign. But its highly likely that he will be signed during summer if he continues to impress.

As you can imagine Dick Cheney is fuming due to the release of a memo dated to 2004 from the CIA to the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Legal Counsel. It  was released recently under the Freedom of Information Act lawsuit filed by Amnesty International USA and the American Civil Liberties Union.  It contains techniques such as “walling” and “insult slaps” to be used in interrogations.

Have you noticed how kids, especially boys, go into different stages while growing up during the first 2 years. From birth to the first 6 months there is barely any kind of connection with the baby as they have no reaction and are mostly unaware of whats going on. But from 6 months on to a year, a relationship starts to solidfy and develop. You get excited about getting back home to play with him, he is cute and does funny things while making everyone smile. You enjoy carrying him on your shoulders and when you’re out he sits politely in his high chair. Then we get to the next stage from 12-18 months, as you can see im doing the stages the same way they label the baby clothes. At this point your angel of a son wants to rip the keys off your laptop, fiddle endlessly with your phone, and shove dvds into your media center, or in my case, the cordless phone into the subwoofer as well. Sitting at his high chair in a restaraunt is a difficult task if he is not hungry, and he regularly wants to stroll around and investigate. He still makes you laugh but is becoming stubborn and needs to be kept in check, but how?? Then we reach the stage of “toddler puberty”, from 18 months to 24 months. Now, he will smack you and everyone around if he doesnt get his way. He will pat you down to search you for your iPhone so he can unlock it and play with the Handgun App, even when you downloaded iTot Cards so he can learn with flash cards on your phone. Try and take him to cut his hair, he will instantly turn into the Tasmanian Devil and whirlwind his way through whoever stands in his way. As a father, sometimes you worry. But throughout, the answer given when you ask, “what do I do with him”? is “dont worry he is a boy, they are always like that and will grow out of it”. So until then, we just have to wait and see.
