DSL Prices in Kuwait *Double Update*

These are the current DSL prices here during the InfoConnect Expo.

Prices are for an annual subscription.

* If your line can handle more than 2Mb, you’ll get the speed for the same price as the you would for 4Mb. So basically they are saying that the prices of anything more than 2Mb and less than 4Mb are the same.

** subscription from 5Mb onwards will cost the same.

Qualitynet: You’ll get double the subscription speed the first 3 months (for 256Kb and 512Kb subscriptions only), and a free wireless router.

Gulfnet: Subscription are for 14 months (2 free months) and you’ll get a free wireless modem.

They also have a new service where you can temporarily activate a 24Mb speed on your subscription (if your line can handle it) for a fee of 3.5KD. It will be activated for a week or till you reach your cap of 1GB, it can be activated via their website.

KEMS: You get 3 months free (total 15 months).

Fasttelco: You’ll get a 6 times your subscribed speed everyday from 1am to 7am.

Nokia Offering Turn-by-Turn Navigation For Free

Nokia just announced today that most of Nokia owner can download the new map/nav application for free on their devices.

So that puts it on par with android devices. Except we don’t have good Google maps coverage here in the middle east. Hope Nokia’s offering is much better.

Negative Effect – The Photography Blog

Our good friend at Negative Effect has got his photo blog up and running now. You will probably remember him from the Gulf Run videos/photo’s as well as other photo’s from different events. You can check out the website for more of his amazing work. He uses many different camera but predominantly a Canon for his photos. Enjoy NegativEffect.

$1000 App from Apple iTunes Store

In 2008 Apple withdrew their “I Am Rich” app from the app store which sold 8 copies and only featured a red gem (shown below) on the iPhone’s home screen. They came under heavy abuse for even allowing an app of this sort into their App Store.

But now they are back with a real and working app that also costs $1000.  BarMax CA is a legitimate application which helps law students prepare for the BAR exam. Its price is allegedly justified because companies with the same styled programs sell it for between $3000-$4000. If you find yourself obliged to buy the app you can find it here.

What Credit Crunch?

Accommodation : 88 Cabins available for crew and total of 115 persons on board.

As you would expect from a modern mega yacht, in addition to the two large tenders, the Dubai also holds a wide variety of water sports equipment and toys, including a small submarine. In fact, the mega yacht Dubai has so many water toys, there are two rooms on the boat just for stowage, like giant toyboxes! But wait, there’s more! The yacht also has a squash room, spa, and is fitted out with the obligatory mega yacht helicopter pad.

This project was taken over by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid from the Prince Jefri Bolkiah of Brunei in 2001. But Chelsea owner and oil magnate Roman Abramovich’s new mega yacht Eclipse, should be commissioned in 2010 at 533 feet, making it the biggest of them all.

Asrar Al-Qabandi – أسرار القبندي

On January 14, 1991, Asrar Al-Qabandi was murdered. She was shot five times – four bullets to her chest and the fifth bullet between her eyes, and her head sliced in two by an axe as her body dumped in front of her family’s home by the Iraqi’s. This was the fate of one of the braveset women of Kuwait… of the world. She saved hundreds of Kuwaiti’s during the Gulf War, and came back to Kuwait to save more lives even though she knew the Iraqi’s had found out what she had done. This woman has been dead exactly 19 years. And this is the least we can do in saluting the woman who had died saving lives.

I recieved the above as a message yesterday and thought it would only be fitting we remember and recognize Asrar Al-Qabandi’s amazing feats and life saving actions.

Some of her other victories include smuggling weapons from Basra to Kuwait, money and more weapons from Saudi Arabia, single-handedly destroying the monitored telephones and communications set up by the Iraqis, providing targeted Kuwaitis with new ID’s to protect them from harm, providing foreign families with food and money, and taking care of 65 foreign hostages, risking a guaranteed execution.

Unplanned Blog Revamp

After posting yesterday, I went and updated a few wordpress plug-ins. after that the my theme got completely screwed. I lost my banner and a few logos and couldn’t get the theme to work again and the blog looked stupid.

I quickly went through a few themes and went with this look. It’s a temporary theme till we get our custom made one.

Now it has been confirmed it will be a 3 day event. The final day will consist of “Gulf Run Drag Sudden Death Match”  from 10am-1pm. And it has also been confirmed that there is indeed a drift course in Gulf Run 5.
